H.E. 7th Kundol Namkha Thinley Wangyal Rinpoche
H.E. 7th Kundol Namkha Thinley Wangyal Rinpoche is the seventh reincarnation of the great Kundol Jatson Nyingpo of 18th century Tibet. He was born to Chime Dolma and Mathang Tsewang Norbu in 1961, the Iron Bull year of the Tibetan calendar, in Sikkim, India. Around that time he recevied teaching and initiation from H.H. 33rd Menri Trizin of Bon, H.E Yongzin Sangye Tenzin, H.E. Yungdrungling Khenchen(Abbot), H.E. Tsudu Rinpoche, H.E. Yongzin Polop Tenzin Namdak Rinpoche.
Yongzin Sangye Tenzin Rinpoche of Menri Monastery recognized him as the true and unmistakable incarnation of Terchen Kundol Hung Chen Dodhul. Traditional rituals were performed, prayers were offered and ceremonial crown was offered to him during the enthronement ceremony. In 1971 he traveled to Pal Shenten Menri Ling in North India, where he studied with delight from the great teacher, 33rd Menri Trizin. He took prime importance in his studies and did extensive meditation at Menri, the seat of Bon Tradition. Kundol Rinpoche is, however, a non sectarian and hence had a high desire to understand and to study all the great religious traditions. He took great many teachings and initiations from such highly venerated Buddhist teachers as H.H. Menling Tri Rinpopche, H.H. Dilgo Kyentse Rinpoche, H.H. Dodrup Rinpoche and many others. For a long time he took extended teachings and meditated at the seat of Paltrul Jampal Lodoe Rinpoche.
The 1st Kundol is one of the most important Tulkus of the New Bon tradition. Now the lineage of the Kundol branch is quite associated with the teachings of Shardza Rinpoche. Indeed, Shardza was a disciple of the 5th Kundol and a master of the 6th Kundol. The actual 7th Kundol Rinpoche was recognized by Yongdzin Sangye Tenzin Rinpoche in India. The teachings of the Kundol lineage cover all Sutras, Tantras and Dzogchen. As far as Dzogchen is concerned, the lineage is famous for its Khandro Nyingthik, as well as its Khandro Sangdü, Marmo Dzubtsuk and other cycles. The 1st Kundol Rinpoche is also the author of an important commentary on the Bonpo Lam-rim. One point to add is that all Kundol incarnations are Tertöns -- revealers of hidden treasures. The first Kundol was also the founder of the great seat of learning Mongyal Monastery in Tibet. Since the birth of the first Kundol Rinpoche in 1700 AD, reincarnations of the Rinpoche have successively appeared to uphold the wheel of compassionate teachings of the Bon for the benefit of all sentient beings. The depth of the great deeds of Kundol Rinpoche and the vastness of his knowledge are the signs that he is truly the great Terchen Kundol Hung Chen Dodhul Lingpa in a different physical form. Kundol Rinpoche is a non-sectarian and has received teachings and empowerments with highly venerated Bon and Buddhist masters such as H.H. Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, H.H. Menling Tri Rinpoche, H.E. Dodrup Rinpoche and many others.
The above is a compilation of a variety of sources including personal communications and the Za Mongyal Yungdrung Ling web site. .
